another good travel guide from Bavaria from my friend Helmut in Canada

Bavaria is a wonderful place for holidays and vacation, the lovely landscape in front of the Alps are good for relaxing and refreshing. But do you know that there is a place where you can healthness too through mother nature while you are in holidays?

45 kilometers from Munich away in direction to Salzburg we have the nice and well known village Bad Aibling. You can reach it by train or by the near highway Munich-Salzburg. From the airport I will need approximately a short hour (60 km/45miles) to drive you there.

Since about 150 years Bad Aibling helps suffering people by therapeutics with "mud". In 1838 two doctors and a drugstore owner made a lot of experients how they can use the swamp existing there since nearly 10 000 years. In ancient times documents named the village as a recreation area of the Romans as they had conquered Germany and people knew, in these old times there was a big knowledge of using the nature.

Seven years later in 1844 was the first "Sole- and Mudbath-House" founded. And so started a great coming up for that village in therapeutics and wellness for people from everywhere. The picture shows one of the first health-resort hotels around 1900.

Some explanation about the healing therapeutics: the mud from the swamp has the property to store heat and lose it very slowly. So your body warms up in bath till you have a healing fever. Also included in this mud there are antiphlogistic, muscles activating and analgesic parts. People with rheumatism will be freed of suffering pains by the mudbathes because muscles and the whole body are lighter in the bath. Also they found good healing results in special female sicknesses.

So, if you plan to visit Germany for some weeks, especially Bavaria, you can think about a cure in Bad Aibling too. If you are feeling tired or burned out it will helps you too and in combination with all the opportunities of the lovely landscape of the Chiemgau you will have both together - refreshing your healthness, keep your wellness and have good holidays.

There are a lot of acommodations, even the bigger ones are mostly familiar for all guests. Talking about the food is not necessary you have from bavarian country style to international dishes everything.

Bad Aibling has 5000 years old roots, a lot of them you can visit in the museums or in the village itself. Some houses are older than 300 years and the history is documented in paintings or buildings too. The age of Rokoko and Barock are in some churches still alive but also the always friendly and hospitable manner of the citizens. They offer possibilities for every taste, bathing in several clear and nice lakes, not only in the medical house, you can rent bikes, you can go fishing, a lot of marvellous trips by foot are prepared, sports like golf or tennis are possible, in winter times there are ski wandering routes or many lifts in the near Alps. One day trips to the music town Salzburg in Austria or to Bavarians Capital Munich are very easy, one of the world famous castles, Herrenchiemsee, is only a few minutes by car away - what you want more?

Some other castles? No problem - only 5 kilometers away our picture shows Schloß Maxlrein, there you will find a nice beergarden for resting and have original bavarian food like we show a little bit higher.

More informations or help you can get by the Tourist-Information of Bad Aibling personally. I would appreciate to pick you up sometimes from the airport and drive you down to that lovely and healthfully village - your George.
